Aspire (2013)
Aspire is a 1980's style pop machine crossed over with a modern day self-checkout. It is 5 feet tall and approximately 4 feet wide, requiring a single outlet to run. Users are left with a shiver, a receipt, and a question: was it worth it? In our world, everything has a price and everybody makes sacrifices for materialism and status. Users are made to decide whether they are willing to scan a real organ for an expensive item on the vending machine. Aspire draws its influence from a news story about a 17 year-old boy, who sold his kidney for an iPad. The greater the need, the greater the sacrifice: would you give up a kidney?

Meanwhile in China (2012)
Branding for a new startup blog that translates and posts news coming out of China. Working with a very limited budget, a free wordpress blog was setup and customized to suit the blog's functionality. Free stock images of China were found that suited the branding appearance and a chop with Meanwhile in China in Chinese characters was created.
A series of business cards were designed to promote the blog and each member of the blog.

NYU GSO Martin Luther King Event (2012)
Event branding and promotional posters created for NYU Steinhardt Graduate Student Organization for their Annual Martin Luther King Oratorical Event. The typographic event logo was used on posters and mugs.
NYU's purple was used as the main focus colour along with NYU's branding standard sans-serif font.

Lively Learning Branding (2012)
Branding and website created for a small English tutoring service in Hong Kong. The logo is to advertise the company as a professional, but less conventional tutoring center. A website was setup using the Wordpress content management interface. Business cards and letterheads were also created.

KCL PASS Fashion Show Gala (2011)
Event branding design for a UNICEF charity fundraising gala held by King's College of London Public Awareness and Social Service (KCLPASS) Student Society. Digital and print promotional materials were made with this design.
The event branding had to be elegant and a fashion illustration was incorporated with the AIDs awareness ribbon to represent the event. -

2050 Interactive Identity Changer (2010)
Made for a 1st year class at Ryerson. This project is a prediction of a networked culture in 2050. My team focused on the idea of beauty and using nano-camouflage technology, created a company and imaginary suit that would allow people to change their appearance without the lengthy process of plastic surgery.
This was our idea for an interactive advertisment, where people would be able to see "themselves" and purchase the new features.
Created in Flash, using Photoshop to isolate features.

Created for the entrance piece of Ryerson. Inspired by the artist, Ken Rinaldo.
My piece titled Consuming the World is a composite of photographs, which illustrates the sheer volume of available products. Globalization has caused society to become more wastefulas people have increasing access and knowledge.
City (2009)
The bustling city of Hong Kong is forever changing, but there are things that people hold on to. The pretty stair street in the Central District is from the beginning of Hong Kong's colonial days. The street is still used and maintained today.
The piece is composed of four photos intricately merged together.

Technology Town (2008)
A colourful, bizarre, world absorbed in technology to such an extent that people are not even going out onto the street.
This vector, a personal project, was created using Adobe Illustrator CS3, completed in approximately six hours. The piece was featured in Communication Technology magazine, "Digitzed", published by Canadian International School of Hong Kong.
Inspired by the style of illustrator, Ben O'Brian.
Insecurity (2007)
Imperfection consumes the mind.
The process of growing up can cause many insecurities in adolescents. A blue period of lacking self-esteem. Even a common cosmetic correction device, such as braces, can create immense grief and sorrow.

Chemical Romance (2009)
People wonder how and why they fall in love. Many consider love to be irrational and unpredictable. This documentary explores a different take on love - the scientific aspect of romantic love. Is love simply a bunch of chemicals? If so, can it be generated or calculated? How much does science influence love? By looking at how the senses and chemicals affect the human body and mind, one will be introduced to the idea of science as a factor of love.

Gerascophobia (2010)
"Everything moves. Rest does not exist. Don't let yourself be controlled by obsolete notions of time. Away with hours, seconds and minutes. Stop resisting change. EXIST IN TIME - BE STATIC, BE STATIC WITH THE MOVEMENT. For stasis, in the now occurring NOW. Resist the anxious impulse to stop what moves, to freeze moments and to kill what lives. Give up constructing values that always collapse anyway. Be free, live! Stop painting time. Give up building cathedrals and pyramids, that fall apart like sugar-candy. Inspired by Jean Tinguely's "For Statis" manifesto, Gerascophobia, the fear of growing old or aging, is an interactive installation which comments on society's obsession with beauty and youth. No matter how hard people try, aging cannot be stopped, but people still spend money and put their lives at risk for plastic surgery procedures. The syringe attempts to remove wrinkles on the face, but can only temporarily change the appearance.

A Bit About Me
I have always loved computers.
This love is probably a (slight) addiction, but I enjoy learning new things and the Internet has endless amounts of knowledge & unfound skills. You can never stop learning and through practice, you can constantly improve.
I have been making graphics & websites since I was 11, but I also enjoy yoga, horseback riding, and traveling.
There are many things that inspire me: the city, people, photos, doodles, etc. Sometimes the most random things can spark a new idea.
I'm currently a new media student at Ryerson University. We do everything from concept to execution, while combining art & technology.

Artist Bio
Cristal Sung is a designer working with graphics, web, and new media. Her work merges the virtual with the physical, while focusing on themes of identity, sociopolitical problems and the concept of beauty. Cristal is from Hong Kong and studies New Media at Ryerson University in Toronto.
